Super Summer 2010 Parents Day
Dear Parents,
Thank you for making this HUGE investment in the spiritual life of your teenager! When we first discussed adding this option to Super Summer, we knew it would be a big sacrifice for you, but we also felt like it was of God.
One of the biggest hurdles that students face after Super Summer is over is having adults around them that understand what they’ve experienced and can encourage them to hold fast to the teachings. As their parent, you have a high calling to train them. We can partner with you, but you hold the keys to success or failure in your teen’s spiritual growth. You are still the most influential person in their life! We want to put you in the driver’s seat.
To make this experience a memorable one, we have set up several activities for you to be a part of. You can participate as fully as you want to, but the key is for you to understand the environment of Super Summer and be able to put your arms around your teen as they leave Super Summer. Ideally, you would come in on Friday afternoon at 1pm and join us on the recreation field for School Olympics. You’ll even have the opportunity to participate with our Adult School in recreation!
After recreation, we clean up and head to Electives. These afternoon electives, designed to be ongoing training, vary in topics and you can pick from the list as to which one you’d like to attend.
After supper, you’ll then be encouraged to join me in the Adult School for a special session on parents and youth leaders as partners in ministry. This interactive session will challenge both the parent as well as the youth leader to see their roles in the spiritual development of teenagers. We then head to the auditorium for our evening worship, where you will, again, be challenged in your own personal walk and calling.
Saturday morning involves a wrap-up session and commissioning service for our students. This is the most memorable event of the week! Everyone wraps up around 11am.
Here’s what we will need from you upon arrival at Super Summer:
- A completed medical/registration form (download it here!)
- A copy of your medical insurance card
- $30 (this covers the cost of two meals and one night’s lodging in our adult dorm)
Here are some simple guidelines as you arrive at Super Summer:
- Once here, please plan on staying through the close of Super Summer. Students are not allowed to leave early and the Commissioning Service on Saturday morning is vital to the Super Summer strategy.
- You are welcome to sit in on your students’ sessions, but please refrain from “dropping in”. We want to make sure there are as few distractions as possible.
- Feel free to have dinner and/or breakfast with your student! We encourage this and see this as a part of the reason we include Parent's Day!
Thank you, again, for this investment in your student and thank you for allowing us to invest in your student!
